It was an interesting day coming back from a wedding so I would be able to get to work on time.  I remembered as I was walking up the stairs about the slight leakage problems I have in my room while I thought about just how much rain had fallen over the past few days (definitely more than an inch since my friend got their engagement ring for free from the jewelers for having over an inch of rain on their wedding day).  I was expecting maybe some over flow from the pots and what not I had left to defend my floor.  What I found was wet floor.  Not entirely soaked and not all over the room.  Fairly localized to one corner of my room, but way worse than I had imagined.  New leaks had apparently sprung thanks to the torrential downpours from this weekend.

I won’t lie I was more than a little upset.  Didn’t my roommates, who have lived here longer than I have and in my room before me, know it was this bad?  Shouldn’t our landlord have done something about this already?  Why do I care about my stuff getting wet?  That last one is the one that gets me and encourages me to address the situation, but not to get too caught up in what happens to a few things when they get wet.  Knowing people who are voluntarily living in a van helps to keep things in perspective…especially when one of my friends and I are thinking about following in The Forerunners footsteps beginning next May.  I’m hopeful that even if we do not follow in their footsteps that I will be able to take a more accurate appraisal of “my” things and start to eliminate things that become unnecessary when you live in a van.

I’m hoping for a Great Displacement to be taking place in my life while I’m in my current season of life.  I’m not sure how long it will last or where it will take me (maybe nowhere but BloNo, IL), but I’m excited to be displaced.  To be inconvenienced.  And I pray I won’t wine too much even though that’s what I really want to do when there’s a whole in my ceiling and puddles in my room.
